looking for pointers on installing gears

anyone know of anyone that can install gears in a D30 and a ford 8.8 fairly cheap? might try it myself, but i will have to do it without the gauges and stuff the pro's use. any pointers for me doing it myself or should i just hire a pro to do it?

pretty complete article here Sam, it's what I followed when I put the 3.73's in my 30. All you have to get is the torque specs from elsewhere on the web.

yes sir i do, and the axles are not under the jeep. the 8.8 is on jack stands and the 30 is laying next to it. the 8.8 is already emptied out all but the pinion gear.

The PBB article is good. That was going to be my suggestion also. I would also say to make sure you have every necessary tool possible, end then some for a litle creature comfort. An axle stand is probably one of the greatest things I've ever made! Seriously...think about it. Who wants to be hunched over a stinky rear end for hours?
If I wanted to hear from an ass, I'd fuckin fart.

Wow, all that and a heated garage w/ the axles layin right there. Plus 50 an axle! Man thats a deal. Although if your offerin Capt. Morgan, you'll probably have to throw in a cot and breakfast

You guys are hitting into this a little quicker than I was thinking, I still haven't bought the gears yet. I'll look into things and see what I can come up with.

lol its not that hard, check the backlash before you take the gears out by hand then when you put them back in, make sure its the same and put some paint on the ring gear and spin it around to check the gear mesh and your good lol did it to my truck several times

I was looking at the maps, and it looks like I can save an hour heading to Mt Pleasant to SLOWHITE_Z's place some other time if that would work for him, instead of heading to your place bigrubbers4x4.
