    Exhaust manifolds...cracked!

so, for the 2nd time my XJ has a crack in the exhaust manifold. What are you guys running as replacements? Is it worth high end ones? Or are stocks with heat shields good enough for a 145K motor with no other mods except a drop K&N, high flow cat and dynomax ehaust?

Also, anyone into making down pipes from manifold to cats? Or anyone know anyone/ anyplace with a nice set up?

I just got done putting the APN in today. I had zero problems with the install.
Heat sheild/wrap is a bad idea because it traps the heat in the header causing it to crack faster.
Down pipes, I just got the NAPA crap model and called it good for 40-50 bucks.

You can get the mandrel bent ones for around $150ish. Whatever you do don't go to the dealer. Prices for down pipes are absurd.

The APNs are good but I've heard of them cacking as well. Anything will if you ask me.

Banks. If you can find a used Borla, that'd be great also. Stainless FTW. Also, the lifetime warranty is a nice touch.
If I wanted to hear from an ass, I'd fuckin fart.

Heat wrap is also a bad idea for any kind of vechicle that see's offroad conditions. Water and mudd will soak into that wrap and cause it to rust/crack sooner (hot, cold, hot, cold, hot, cold) tends to take its toll on things.

I've only heard of a few APN's cracking....but even a banks or borla header will crack if your motor/trans mounts are shot. Most people just assume that their manifold is cracked...replace it...and then turn around and complain because it cracked again. You really cant beat the cost of the APN though.

Stainless would be nice, but I believe the APN's come with a lifetime warranty too.

Finished up every thing today. New 02, plugs and wires, along with the APN, cat, and down pipe.
Some that have done this before say that they didn't really notice much of a difference afterward. HOLY HELL!!, it feels like a new jeep!!
Seriously though, I can't believe the difference I noticed right off the bat. Much more tourque and more responsive. All in all, the jeep feels lighter lol. The one thng I did notice was the overdrive seemed to kick in sooner than it did before. Not sure if I messed something up with the cables or what. Might just be in my head.
