Trans Flush

Hey guys looking for a good place to get a atf flush any advice?

I've always been against tranny flushes so..

Don't flush it. Just drop the pan, clean it out, change the filter if you have one and fill it back up. If you want to make sure its clean just change it again after you take it for a short spin.

Yeah but with that method, aren't you just changing 1/2 the fluid? I know you can run the engine to use it to pump the rest out but isn't that just the same thing as a flush? If you let your transmission go over 5,000 on the tranny fluid interval is that bad?

You can go 50,000 + miles without a flush on most cars.

You only get about 1/3 of the fluid by dropping the pan. What part of town are you in, I can possibly reccomend someone.

my jeep maintenance manual says to change tranny fluid and filter every 30,000 miles.

Yes, if you just drain and refill you are missing alot of fluid. Thats why i suggested to run it and change it again, after the initial changing of fluids.

if you've kept up to date on transmission fluid changes and the tranny hasn't been giving you issues, go ahead and flush it. However, if its be acting up or you have like 100k miles on it and its never been flushed, i wouldn't do it.

You can either
A. Take it to someone who will flush it for you
or
B. Drain the old fluid out and "flush" it that way.

If you just drain it out, your right, you wont get all of the fluid out. I've always been taught that if you do this, to make sure you know how much you pulled out so you can put that much back in. You'll have to drain it and refill it a couple times to get all the fluid out. The general rule of thumb is once you drain it, refill it and drive for 3-5 days then drain it again. Once the fluid starts coming out clean, then drop the pan and replace the filter.



If your trans doesnt have many miles on it or your not having any problems with it shifting, I would just take it someplace that has a warranty for that kind of work. I've had good experience with cottman, but you can never go wrong with the dealership (you'll just pay alotttt more)

Thanks for the help. Sorry I am fairly new to this. My nissan only has 64,000 miles on it. I don't have the service records from the previous owner so I don't know if they changed it at the recommended 30,000 mile interval which my manual says. But so far I have not had an issues with the transmission. I Checked the fluid and the color is still a pink / red but there does seem to be a hint of brown nothing major though. Also the atf does not smell burnt. I am located in Hamar. But I am in school right now and with finals and all its just too much of a hassle to take the truck to get changed so I was just wondering if I could make it to the end of April when I will be able to get it changed.

It'll last. As long as everything is functioning properly, don't worry about getting it done immediately. Just make sure that you get to it when you get a chance.
