    Attn: Admins

I would like to address something that is bothering me and several others regarding the rules on this forum (particularly the marketplace forum).

I am 100% with your decision to block replies by anyone other than the OP. It keeps random bickering out of For sale threads. However, we STILL have a problem with new/random people signing up, posting in the FS/FT forum. I have asked for this before, and Steve has served as "pseudo-mod" for new guys posting without the intro thread for a while. I know everyone has things to do outside of the forum and its issues, HOWEVER....

If we have time to limit our members in good standing, can we possibly make time to limit the ones who NO ONE knows that continually post shit for sale without following the rules?

    Thanks

As I've said 100 times before, when someone invents 2 more hours in the day for me to waste on this place, I will gladly set up a mandatory introduction thread.

However, the moment I do that, I will get 2-5 new members a day PMing me asking me "why their account doesn't work" since no one here reads instructions.

More moderation is not what I want.

I'd rather delete the for sale forum at the moment. I can not begin to tell you the frustration I have felt about these requests as of late.

Let me go look for my magic wand...

I guess what I should really ask you all is: WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?

Oh no. Someone we don't know is trying to sell something they have. Welcome to every Internet forum in existence that has a for sale forum.

If I sound annoyed and frustrated, it's because I am. See subtitle.

I understand why you're frustrated with that.

My question is that if you had the time to limit replies to the OP in the for sale thread, why not address the issues that everyone has been bitching about (people NOT reading the friggin rules.)

If you made it mandatory, and they PM you about it = BAN
If they post WITHOUT intro and another mod sees it = BAN

Hell, people have been banned for less....

There are enough mods for the relatively low traffic we get here to handle these things. One person can't do it all, and we certainly don't expect YOU to have to handle it by yourself.

EDIT: I'm done bitching, I just want the forum to stay running as smooth as it currently is without retards posting nonsense all over. Limiting access to the FS/FT section by post-count DOES work on other boards.

I guess people do not want to see a good deal if the person selling hasn't post whored up the site??!!

I am lookin at the first page of the for sale forum. I see two for sale posts from folks previously unknown. Even if it was 5, I wouldn't care. If it was 10, I probably wouldn't care. Hell, you know what, if it was every other thread, nope, still don't really care!

As for my time and what I choose to do with it on here, that is my call, I waste enough as it is. I can not force people to read the rules, nor can I ban them over a first offense. considering the "MEMBERS IN GOOD STANDING" are the ones rarely following them.

You have no idea how many threads are already deleted for not obeying the rules. I miss some. Deal with it.

As for people bitching, I see only a few. The rest know shit happens. Give me a break.

Your idea for banning based on those two scenario's is a complete joke. We would have zero unbanned new members. Well maybe we'd get one a month.

At the moment: if you want to have a for sale forum at all, quit bitching. It's not really needed considering craigslist and ebay.

    Where's my magic wand?

I doubt you're actually done bitching

As I've said before, I will get around to making changes, but it is not something I am going to do in an instant based on one thread of you bitching me out for something I don't agree with. As I plan to revamp and redo the forum lists as it is, I'm not going to do it twice. Time is too valuable, and I have three vehicles that I could be wrenching on instead of actually spending any time invested in this place at all.

This place is such a drain on me I can't believe I even reply to some of this stuff.

    Talk about vocal minority.

    Who cares????

If some person who never posted on here has something I want to buy, I don't have a problem with that. If you don't want to deal with people who you have never met before, go lock yourself in your closet, or better yet don't buy what they are selling.
Now if they are spamming the site with ads for male enhancement pills from overseas pharmacies, then I might have a problem with that.

You spend too much time wheeling, breaking stuff, and wrenching. You should spend more time web-wheeling or "web-off-topicing" as this place is

Use the anti-spam approach at registration and make the passphrase "I must introduce myself before I can post in any of the forums." Then make 7 pages with bold print that says "I must introduce myself before I can post in any of the forums." and move the OK/continue button around so it forces the user to look over the screen and hopefully read it.

Or, when they do try to post a thread, put in big bold letters "You may not have been able to post because you must first introduce yourself".

But it's what I want. I love going to websites and feeling oppressed when every thread gets edited or deleted.

How else am I supposed to sell something? I've had better luck selling stuff here than other local boards. Nobody in WNY ever seems to want to buy any off-roading stuff despite them posting about how they want something that I am selling.

If it takes you two hours to find it, your time could have been better spent over-moderating or web-wheeling.

I think it is very simple when you take a step back and look at it. Like every other internet-based website in the world... BUYER BEWARE. If the post count of the member effects your decision on buying from them then so be it. If the deal is too good to pass up and they have never posted before then I would hope you would take the necessary steps to financially protect yourself.

    Just my thoughts on it.

Here's a tip. Post your for sale items on craigslist. Then one of the dedicated craigslist trollers here will post a link to it for you, and you won't even need to sign up for a PghOffroad account. WIN-WIN.

If you decide to make a mandatory 1st post, and don't want to deal with the PM's, send them my way. I can take care of the 2 hours a day that you don't have if you'd like.

Either way...I don't care too much anymore. Work is really busy and I don't come on during the day much anymore. Ban stick isn't gonna fix anything when it comes to this, though. If people wanna come on here and make a 1st post selling a piss green Honda that is gonna blow up, for 3x what it is worth, that is on them. Some times, yes, there are good deals. Other times, I really do think it is just people who wanna pawn their shit off.

    Craigslist FTW.

I also don't think it is fair that Administrators can post up in locked for sale threads wanting to buy stuff. Cebby getting me all excited that they were back to open post!

Oh, and Matt, I thought I was really nice in the piss green Honda thread!

    Caveat emptor;

Under the doctrine of caveat emptor, the buyer could not recover from the seller for defects on the property that rendered the property unfit for ordinary purposes. The only exception was if the seller actively concealed latent defects. The modern trend in the US, however, is one of the Implied Warranty of Fitness that applies only to the sale of new residential housing by a builder-seller and the rule of Caveat Emptor applies to all other sale situations (i.e. homeowner to buyer). [See Stambovsky v. Ackley, 572 N.Y.S.2d 672 (N.Y. App. 1991)] Many other jurisdictions have provisions similar to this.
Before statutory law, the buyer had no warranty of the quality of goods. In many jurisdictions, the law now requires that goods must be of "merchantable quality". However, this implied warranty can be difficult to enforce, and may not apply to all products. Hence, buyers are still advised to be cautious.
In addition to the quality of the merchandise, this phrase also applies to the return policy. In most jurisdictions, there is no legal requirement for the vendor to provide a refund or exchange. In many cases, the vendor will not provide a refund but will provide a credit. In the case of software, movies and other copyrighted material many vendors will only do a direct exchange for another copy of the exact same title. Most stores require proof of purchase and impose time limits on exchanges or refunds. However, some larger chain stores will do exchanges or refunds at any time with or without proof of purchase- although they usually require a form of picture ID and place quantity or dollar limitations on such returns.

ok, first off... i know where you guys are coming from.. no one wants to get ripped off... but it is BUYER BEWARE!!! we don't need someone to mod that thread...whats going to happen... think about it... someone who lives within driving distance to us is selling his/her shit and we either like dumb-asses send our c.card # or paypal without seeing the merchandise because we are too freaking lazy to drive out, or you drive to the sellers place, and see what your buying, and buy it....or walk away... whats the big freakin deal... craigslist and ebay do it all day long... i-trader ratings would maybe help, but most things you see/read on the internet can not be taken 100% seriously...use common sense.
