Yea, the SJ 29 and the full sus are pretty close in weight. Same thing with the Hifi and the fisher x-cal. I have a scale if you want to compare them.

    no real need, per Fisher:

Here is the weight of a Gary Fisher HIFI: 31.6lbs. The HIFI PLUS weighs approximately 28.5lbs
no clue how much mine weights, I havent really upgraded anything other than the seat since I bent it in half.

those weights HAVE to be for small frames. gearhead has a bunch of lightened parts and his weighs a few lbs more than that.
taking unsafe rigs to a whole other level

Mine is a deluxe hifi, medium frame. I want to say the LBS weighed it when it came in b/c it was the very first one they've seen. I'm pretty sure it was 27.75lb. All I've done is change tires, bars, seat and seat post and im already down to 26.2. i have a 2nd set of wheels im building with some uber light cross country tires that will be tubeless which should take me down into the 25's no problem.

The x-cal parts spec falls in between the hifi plus and deluxe. The weights of all three of these bikes will be very similar. Now the price tags are not the same, you will have to pay a bit more for all the squshy bits on the back of the bikes, that is why given his budget I was saying stick with a 29er.

stop spending money on the Paragon and buy a full sus. 29er, (best of both worlds!)

    hifi pro 29er... mmmmmm

edit.. also i think there is something going on at 7springs this weekend. my one buddy was telling me they are demoing a bunch of bikes while opening the whole park.. i'd have to get more details, but it would be a great place to try a few rigs on for size!

i think they are only demoing (is that a word?) bigger travel bikes this weekend. Everything is free though, even lift tickets! I am not going because I like mountain biking to get away from people, not be around a ton of them, we are going up to the springs this week to ride the lifts. Monday or Thursday, maybe both days.
