I have a 96 XJ 4.0 6cyl. Went wheelin down in washington and temp was pretty warm, went into a cold creek bed and I am pretty sure that some water splashed up on the manifold and probably cracked it. Reason being now I have the dreaded sound like air blowing out of a hole or crack in the pipe under the engine when you accelerate.
My main question is could a crack in the manifold cause problems with my 02 sensors. I occasionally have a slight hesitation in acceleration at about 40 mph then when you give it more gas it picks right up. I think this is due to me gettin stuck in the mud and flingin mud and water all over gods creation and maybe got some in the intake cuz the filter was damp (which I have replaced). I have had people tell me to try and replace the 02 sensors or the TPS but this problem started when the manifold noise started so I think they are linked. So would a crack/hole or bad gasket etc. cause problems with the 02 sensor? Thanks for the help!
I also replaced the dist. and cap and rotor, and new plugs and wires as well. The hesitation does not happen all the time, just once in a while but it is enough to drive me nuts, not to mention I don't want it to grow into a larger problem.
