    Lights

Looking to get a set of driving lights for the front of my truck. I was looking at the KC slimlights because of the good price. Since these will be mounted in the front they will probaly get hit with stones, water, and salt. Just wondering how the quality of these lights are and if they will hold up? Any other recommendations?

I've had really good luck with PIAA. The reflectors for the lights started to rust after 5 years and I called to buy replacements. They told me it was covered under warranty and sent me new ones. Didn't even have to pay for shipping. I also like the quality of the wire harness. Some stuff is really cheap.

IMO, you can't go wrong with the Hella 500's. Cheap, as bright as you are legally allowed to run, plastic so there is no rusting.

Their wire harness does leave little to be desired, but that isn't that big of a deal, most harnesses are either too long or too short any way.

I have 6 hellas on my jeep.. 2 on the bumper and 4 on the roof. I love the 2 on the bumper but if I had to do the lights on the roof again, I wouldn't go with all 4 being driving lights. I think having a set of pencil beams would be a little nicer. However, the driving lights on the roof does make it a ton easier to see in the woods/on the trail.

I have to agree on the Hella 500's. I love mine. I have a nasty habit of killing anything electrical, and they haven't died yet so they get the Joe seal of approval. I did get a set of cheap soft covers for them because the plastic ones on mine looked like hell after about 3 months, but other than that they're awesome. I've seen people with the hard covers on that look fine, so I may have just got a bum set.

I have had mine of for about 2 1/2 years and the covers look fine, but they are cracking.

They are good, but they are usually not cheap. They also have a metal housing which unless maintained well will rust (or you can get the stainless ones).

You also can't legally run more than 55w lights on the road.

Found them for 144, black housing, wiring and free shipping. The hella's were more expensive. So what companies have plastic housings?

^ those are the ones i have, i strongly suggest them. Back roads turn to day light when you flick them on.

Well I have kc, delta tech, and pro comps all on the jeep. Each have their advantages:

the kc's are bright (over 100w). They are square tho so I don't know how they compare to what you are looking at.

The delta tech's are great. When I bought them it was around 55 dollars for the lights, harness etc. I have since heard that they have gone up in price. These lights are 55w but are still bright (fog version). Also they are plastic so no rust. The only downside is that they don't stand up to large trees very well.

The pro comps are also great for their price (when I bought they were 15 bucks a light). They are metal so may rust. The only place that mine are rusting is where the radio antenn took the paint off.

You can get Hella 500's at pepboys for close to $70 for both lights (2 1/2 years ago that is where I got mine for $6, wire harness , relay and switch. (though the switch is not that great).

I ended up just going with the KC's. The Hella's looked a little flimsy to be mounted down low on a safari bar. I got the fog lights. Mounted at the same level as stock fog lights would driving lights be ineffective?

Mounted at the same level they will still project light, just not as far as if they are mounted up higher. Honestly tho my kc's are on my bumper and they shine pretty far.
