from what i understand, wont this go from 0-full power immediatley? which should result in some mega wheelies...

omg how cool would it be to see a vid of a guy on a electric pedal bike smoking tire... hint hint

No, thats what the Pulse Width Modulation ciruit is for it will limit the time the motor has full voltage to a millisecond or so at a each pulse allowing me to control the speed. More pulses the longer the motor is on, I just need to make a spring loaded varible resistor to use as a throttle.

So I guess that the president of RIT built an electric bike. He rode it to baja's sponsor day and rumor has it he did a front wheel burnout.

    Just some inspiration.

I was planning on using two 20ah AGM lead acids, should give me a couple hundred charge cycles.

I made another controller circit, and gave it to dr.arif to give a once over. When I got home I made another mount for the motor since the last one broke

Well I got the whole thing together! and flipped it for a motor test, and it spins that tire like there is no tomorrow!
So then I took it for a road test with some bigger batteries(a 15 and 20ah SLA in series for 24v) and they just cant give me the amps I need for full torque and hp.(140amps)
So I tested it with two group 30 deep cycles I put on a backpack frame it got me zipping round at 32mph at the max but I had 180lbs of batteries on my back and even with the cooling fan I installed on the motor, it was burning hot!! (gave me a nice blister when I touched it) I've given up on the winch motor, it just needs to many amps, I might rewind it to use for another project.

    Here is the stationary test

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlt7ZYcspSg

The road test with the winch motor

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_DX0kPPsgk

So I've bought a Scott 1hp motor its huge compared to my winch motor, best part is it draws only 41amps instead of 140! I think I'll overvolt it with 36volts using some dewalt LiFeP04 36v batteries(I saw a good deal locally on craigslist for a tool kit from a business that went under and I could use a new drill)

I made a new controller diagram using a 556 one half controlls the frequency the other controls the pulse width, I think I have some 3k nested pots in my junk box, as I turn it up the frequency and pulse time with increase maybe it will help with motor noise.

The new motor, compared to a 4 gauge and a 12gauge shell

    old motor vs new motor

Well I've started working on it again I've decided to upgrade the battery to 4 half U1 12v 18ah AGMs for a 48v 18ah pack it will weigh 47 pounds (this is going to be a heavy mountain bike) And since I'm doubling the voltage I'll double the motor RPM from 3000rpm to 6000rpm I've added another 9t sporket and a 20t freewheel for 2.222 plus the original 6.22 for a 13.82 ratio which will give me a max speed of 32mph. I've bought a YK42 controller and thumb throttle so just need to wait for the batteries to come in. Then I can start looking for a rolling frame for my e-dirtbike build. (anybody got a rolling chasis they dont need?)

And my next next idea an electric pedal ATV

Was at the machine shop at RMU today and had some free time so I make this 100 Amp / 200 Volt gauge for the bike, the green display is volts (200VDC) and the red is amps (100A)

I need to upgrade to a better bike, on the current one its too hard to ride fast over bumps without suspension.

The drive train of the motor I'm upgrading with a sturmey archer 3speed AW hub to give me 1.33, 1, then 0.75 gears. I'm calculating my stop speed in high gear being 37mph and low gear as being 17mph.

    I got in 4 new gruber 1/2 U1 batteries 12volts @ 18amphours I'll use three for a 36volt back.

Considering the weight of the batteries I assume your not considering a full suspension?
I have a set of front Rock shoxs I would be more than happy to donate, well as long as I can to take it for a spin!

My current bike has a 1" threaded tube, its just too old. Shifters are shot, freewheel cassette is worn out, brakes are going. Just need a new bike, looking at a 07 diamond back responce he wants 250 I'll see if I can talk it down to 200.

I bet if you tell him what you're doing with it and show him this thread, he'd be more than willing to knock it down to $200. At least if he's a cool guy he will.
It's about to get all kinds of stupid up in here!
