    Bike Question

I am fairly new to mountain bikes and just had a question for anyone who knows about bikes. I just got my bike back from a tune up and when I am in the smallest gear in the rear cog my chain and rear deraleur bounce around and make alot of noise when going over bumps and the like. When in a bigger cog this seems to be a little less pronounced but still there. I read about cross chaining (You want the chain to be as straight as possible) and tried picking gears which kept the chain as straight as possible but still got some noise back there. Also the rear deraleur in the smallest cog in the back is so close to the cog that it hits off it a little. What should I do?

it's because your deraileur doesn't have as much tension on the chain in that smaller gear. totally normal to a point.

Gearhead and i both just built single speeds. it's WIERD riding through the woods hearing no chain slap lol.

hit me up if you ever want to go.

I just got a tune up and the tech said he adjusted the rear derailleur so I assumed it should be ok? For some reason after riding for a day its really close to the cog and is like hitting in to it and don't know why it is? I'll have to take some pics and post.

well he probably adjusted it for the shifting.

you can check to see where your deraileur is when you're in Large large and see if you can lose a link out of the chain. that may help.

    what year/type bike?

just FYI, gatto is having a HUGE sale on bikes. My dad just picked up a 29er specialized for 540 bucks!

Sorry about that man. I found a deal on ebay I couldn't pass up. It was like 130 for brand new set of maxxis tires, shimano rear hub, shimano rear cog, sun / ringle wheels all new.
