    4WD Conversion

I have a 2WD drive 1994 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) and I have beenm readng about a 4WD conversion over on Jeep Forum .

Now I do onot have enough mechanical know how to do this myself but I'm sure a few of you guys have done something like this or swapped axels.

So give me your insight. They say all I need is a front axel with a matching ratio, a transfer case, two new driveshafts, and I think that is it.

Anyone one wanna see if they can tackle this with me in about a month or two? I'll throw in all the necessary beer and pizza.

It depensd on what kind of tranny you have. Some of them went straight to the slip yoke style output and can't bolt up to a transfercase, some only had an adapter that needs removed to bolt a transfercase up to it.

It's usually a much bigger job than you'd expect, and it's not a weekend project. It can be done in a weekend, but I PROMISE something would go wrong. I'd help, but I have enough on my plate right now between my Jeep and a few other people I already said I'd help out.

id say you could to it in a weekend if you found some sort of 4x4 conversion bible for the cherokee. had all necessary parts right in front of you, and you had a rotary lift. otherwise...i give it atleast 2 weekends. sorry, youre gonna have to count me out on this one too. between matts buggy, jeffs 8.8, and my front longarm conversion/axle swaps...i think all three of us are pretty booked.
If I wanted to hear from an ass, I'd fuckin fart.

My question is what does a 4WD version of a 94 XJ go for? I think the cost of the swap will exceed the cost of buying a 4WD XJ. Just my .02.

I'm far from being the voice of reason though...

    LOL!

Ya... I like to play, then Cebby decides to stick a Lexus V8 in a 4runner.

    I've been trumped.

I'll finally have some time to get back at it after this weekend. I've been tied up with other endeavors unfortunately. I have all the parts to do the timing belt, water pump and assorted other stuff on the V8. The hoist is finally freed up and hovering over the Runner. I need a couple of small parts for reassembling the transfer cases. I think the last big expense is the driveshaft work.

Once it runs, then the real fun begins. Cruiser coils, ball joint spacers and fender trimming for 35's. Then the fuel tank relocation.

And then while grenading a dozen front CV's, the planning for the SAS - long arm 4 link front & rear with coilovers at all 4 corners.

Yeah, I'm the voice of reason.... I should have my head examined...

I'd sell the 2wd and just buy a 4x4, maybe even slightly built to get a good start! my .02

See the thing is i have a rust free 1994 with a great running 4.0 HO in it.

I got it for only a grand right of a dealship. So I got a really good deal and this Jeep is calling my name.

So I really dont want to get rid of it.
