    AR-15, M4 Parts

The time has come to build the M4.... I am planning on getting a kit from DTI, (http://www.del-ton.com/AR_15_Rifle_Kits_16_s/57.htm) But I am having a bit of a time with getting my hands on stripped lower.

Also, any recommendations from owners as to what parts to stay away from? or parts you couldn't live without? I've been hanging around AR15.com but wanted to see what you guys did. Still not sure if I should get the flat top upper or not. Opinions? Pics?

Last two AR's I put together I used CMMG lowers. I am very happy with them. Reasonably priced, nice finish (anodized), and fit was perfect. I highly recommend them.

ETA Just got a flyer in the mail, Aimsurplus has them for $114.95. Doublestar lowers for $99.95. aimsurplus.com

Well, I have been searching around and stripped lowers are getting hard to come by. I found a shop in TN that had 3 Stag lowers in stock. I reserved one and should have it by the end of the week. Next pay check, I order the rest....

what'sthe advantage of building over buying? i'm purchasing one after my honeymoon (using some wedding $) since there's some uncertainty to whether there will be another assault weapons ban.

i was kicking around one of these:

    or:

    http://dynamicarmament.com/items/lon...4mi-detail.htm

    Or:

    http://dynamicarmament.com/items/lon...721-detail.htm

any reason to build one rather than just buy one of these complete?

The main reason is the ability to order the exact one you want while saving a few hundred $$$. Plus there is no better way to familiarize yourself with your new firearm than building it yourself.

With Del-Ton, you get a pretty decent discount on hand gaurds, uppers, sights, stocks, etc when you order it as a kit. I can have the kit I want and still some money left over for extra mags and ammo.

If you are looking to buy over build there is a place in MD that is selling the DPMS line at a real decent price. They post up every few days, just search under the term "DPMS" and see what you get. The DPMS Lite 16 normally sells for $685 through them and is a great platform to start on.
