    Repairs/Upgrades...

[RANT]So I did a bit of work to the XJ this past week since I had off.

Anyways, I attempted to tackle a new radiator since mine was leaking, new rear brakes (not ready for disks yet) and some other minor things...

Well, lets just say I never got around to doing what I planed on... I did however get the new rad installed to find out that it leaks worse than the one I had in there... Im really getting tired of NEW, junk parts from these parts manufactures... I decided to stay away from Advanced since they really arent good for anything but oil changes and batteries, so I went to NAPA, I got a new rad, installed it and not it not only leaks coolant, but trans fluid as well. I thought at first maybe I missed something, so I tore it all down and tightened everything up again, only for it to leak again. On closer inspection the leak is coming from the tank on the driver side. Its like it was never bonded.

    That sucks.

Im suprised Napa's stuff fell apart that quick...usually it tends to hold up a littttle better than autozone/advance's stuff.

I would just return the broken Napa one and get a heavy duty 3 row one from these guys:

Im sure with the bigger tires and summer heat we see around here your motor would thank you for the extra cooling.

I get 90% of my parts from Napa, have had much better luck than advance/autozone JUNK typically, but for radiators, you can't beat the deals at radiatorbarn, and you don't hear of them failing often.

Bad thing is, I didnt get around to my rear brakes... Good thing, no more check engine light :dunno: I swear my Jeep hates me.

Chris, Thanks for the advice on the transmission line, I got the tool to do the job, but it turned out to be too small, I used a tiny screw driver to do the job. Man those things are a PITA to get reseated again...

NAPA usually has better sales people, but alot of the time the parts are from the same Vendor
You just gotta know what your doing/buying to come out ahead

In fact Advance is now carrying MOOG suspension parts which is top of the line & even NAPA can't get them (at least at the moment, since Advance got them NAPA may pick them up in the future)

BTW:Check out www.rockauto.com for killer deals & massive availability, their website works really well too.

I purchase a couple of parts from them before, their shipping and prices are both very good.

Rockauto is sweet...they have a warehouse in Turtle Creek, so if the part is coming from there then you will most likely get it next day.

I just bought MOOG ball joints from advance and Timken wheel bearings from Autozone. IIRC the NAPA ball joints are MOOG just in a NAPA box. I could be wrong but this is what I hear.

X2 on Rock Auto. Usually cheaper even after shipping and their customer service is top notch.

The PREMIUM's are Moog at Napa, but I think there are lower grades there as well.

Seems as with anything in life, you need to mix and match to get the desired result!

Yeah, they're the "problem solver" ball joints, or something like that.

Tried to get ball joints at napa and they were not the same as the real MOOG ones. The MOOG had an offset grease zerk, ended up getting them at Kern auto parts which is where I get 90% of my parts anyways, but assumed they didn't carry MOOG. Cheaper too.

Nope, NAPA's premium joints are Spicer brand

I didn't know Carquest was carrying Moog, last time I was in a Carquest they also had Spicer

Advance use to carry TRW (may still for all I know), MOOG was a recent aqquisition

I went with the advance auto radiator when mine went. It is supposed to have a lifetime warranty and knock on wood has been fine for me. I think just like everything you can have a bad experience anywhere.

x3 on Radiatorbarn. I got the 3 row heavy duty for the ZJ. It was damaged in shipping - big dent on the neck, which I didn't see until I unpacked it the next day. I called them and they had me another one the next day, no questions asked. Works great, I notice it helps with cooling during the summer.
