    Squeaky Steering Column!!!!

    Hey guys,

I need your help here. I have a squeak in my steering column. It sounds like it is just under the dash. I tried laying underneath, while someone turned the wheel, but I couldn't see anything loose. Any ideas? I have a 1997 TJ with 3" lift on 33's. The squeak is only at the start of a turn, not when I am at a full turn radius.

    Thanks,
    Derek

Sounds like the typical squeak that comes when the weather gets cold.

My XJ does it all the time when its cold....during the summer its fine. Im not 100% sure what it is, but then again I never really looked into it much.

Yes, I have just started noticing it since it has gotten colder. Also, good call on the boot. I thought there had to be some rubber boot or gasket causing the friction, but I haven't needed to get into the steering components, until now!! lol This noise drives me crazy, I will try the boot lube this weekend.

    Thanks,
    Derek

My cherokee did that every now and then but it was barely noticable over the swamper humm and the flowmaster.

You have to remember its a jeep...fix that sound and another one will pop up
