403 with a th350. i have a 2004r OD trans for it that i need to get in it. it's got 3.73's so i need the OD lol. It came with long tubes and intake and stuff. Over the winter i did BMR upper and lower A arms, Aldan coilovers and rear shocks, hotchkiss steering and rear springs. new quick ratio box. wilwood brakes, etc. It drives pretty good for what it is.

Nice. Is a 200R4 going to hold up to a 403? When I was in high school a friend had a 78 olds with a 403 and airplane gears. It wasn’t quick but it just kept accelerating on the highway.

Isn't the 200r4 basically leftover chevette parts with the overdrive added on?

They came behind bigger motors in bigger cars (even the Buick GN, IIRC) but they blew up fast. However they can be built if you want to spend the $$ and they do eat up a bit less power than a 700R4 and a lot less than a 4L80.

It's mildly built up to 400 hp. the 403 is probably half that lol. it only had like 185 hp stock. and it's just got long tubes, intake manifold and carb now. Plenty of tq though.

I bought it from lees speed shop. Should be fine for highway cruising and going to the ice cream shop lol

    Beautiful car.
With all that torque I'd skip the OD and just do 3.23 or 3.42 gears like my old LeMans.
I had 3.73's in it for awhile and it actually slowed the car's acceleration down cause the gears ran out so fast and there wasn't much HP to take advantage of that.

i already have the built OD trans here. and the th350 that's in it needs tuned anyway. the PO paid some hack to put it in and it's all wrong. Plus i have a higher stall and stuff for the 200.

The low 1st in that 200 will make it much quicker off the line too

I thought the 200R4 was just a light duty version of the 700R4?

    https://gearstar.com/200-4r-vs-700r4...ns-comparison/

The 200 can be built up stronger than the 700.

Also, the 200 is shorter, and for this application, is a bolt in swap. i don't have to change the driveshaft or anything.

That article was a little bit off. You can build a 200R4 that is stronger than a 700R4 but if you build both to their maximum strength, the 700R4 will still be stronger. In your application a 200R4 is great for the reasons stated above.
