I wonder if he even knows what you are all going on about. But that was a funny few days. The collective work product went to hell over those few days.

Good luck. It isn't fun. There's a reason I chose never to make PGH-OR an official club years ago, but instead kept it as an online meeting place. There's more involved than is worth it IMHO - when there are already great clubs around. Why compete?

If it's so you and your buddies can call yourself a club - just don't - not worth it.

A "good" club takes a lot of work to keep people interested. If people aren't interested, they will just go off an do their own thing and the club will fold on itself. Event planning doesn't sound difficult, but it's not like planning a trip for a bunch of friends, so it can be a bit stressful at times since you are dealing with people you don't know.

A "good" club will also get their legal ducks in a row by incorporating. If they aren't incorporated, any officers or leaders of the club can be sued for their PERSONAL assets if the shit hits the fan.

Then there is the inherent drama that will take place. I can guarantee you that basically any Jeep/4x4 club out there had at least one "rough" patch where the future of the club was in question. It's also inevitable to have members that complain about everything. Maybe it's because wheeling isn't huge here on the east coast, but eventually you will find that there will always be people bowing out at the last minute despite committing (which tends to be the same people every time and also tend to be the same people complain about how there are never any events they can make) and the same people tend to show up to every event anyways.

^ That sums it up nicely! I have nothing against clubs - if I had more time in my personal life for wheeling right now there's a couple of clubs around here I'd be a member of - but clubs have issues, too. That's why I kept this place as informal as possible while giving folks the ability to talk about and set up 4wheeling trips. It'll never be a club, I don't want it to be.

A jeep club why did we all think of that!!!!!! :p

    J/k

Yea good luck with that though. Been there done that, been part of a good clubs (they were alot of work), been part of clubs with potential, and been part of some true stinkers.

I find a loose knit forum is about the ideal setting for me. Lots of knowledge, lots of people who want to wheel, and people who don't cry when their feelings are hurt.

Like it was posted before- I am part of a club that is nothing really but a few friends so there is no typical queen bee BS going on.

Most jeep clubs are like a new girlfriend- fun at first- then they just become a drag, naggy, whinning all the time, try and tell you who you can or can't talk to (wheel with), eat up all your time, and most of the 'fun' has stopped by then.

Well read whats posted here- there are a few good clubs around.. but you have to figure which ones are good and not good on your own.. out what you want to do if you really want to make it happen and be happy with the decsion.

Wait until the first trail ride when he finds out the club has to carry insurance and sees what that costs.

I used to have a Deaf Jeepers Club of Pgh back in the day but.....I ended up here lol. All my buddies in that club either got married or sold their jeeps so the club just died. I am pretty much the last man standing.
